What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a safe exfoliation technique that refinishes the epidermis, or outer layer of skin, through a controlled scraping process. The blade gently scrapes off the top layer of dulling dead skin cells in order to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion. Dermaplaning also allows for greater penetration of skincare products and creates a flawless canvas for makeup to glide on smoothly. In fact, often dermaplaning is used to help prepare skin for more intrusive procedures such as laser treatments and chemical peels.
Dermaplaning is recommended for all skin types except those with acneic skin. If you have deep cystic acne, wait until breakouts are clear before trying this treatment. As always, also discuss any allergies or skin sensitivities before starting a treatment. This is a great treatment if you are pregnant or nursing and want exfoliation without the risk of harsh chemicals absorbing into the blood stream and potentially harming your baby.
Dermaplaning is a painless procedure and can be compared to the sensation of shaving your legs, but in this case, it’s on your face.
Benefits of Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is preferred by some our patients who want:
- A skin treatment that does not require the use of chemicals
- A relaxing, pain-free procedure
- A treatment that is safe for sensitive skin
- A treatment that removes fine hair, impurities, and dead skin cells
- A more affordable alternative to chemical peels
Your skin may be mildly red and sensitive for a few hours after the treatment. You will notice that your skin feels smoother and tighter after the treatment. Our medical aesthetician will provide instructions on home care and recommend skin care products to keep your skin healthy and beautiful. You can repeat dermaplaning every four to six weeks.
